Artist's Comments

A few weeks ago, I submitted a mock up of a site I was working on: [link]
Well, I've completed the HTML part now too!

This is a screenshot of the site running live in Firefox. The site has been tested against Gecko (Firefox / Seamonkey / Netscape 9), Opera, IE7, and IE6, and it works just fine in all of 'em. I would test it in Safari for Windows as well, but their browser keeps crashing every time I try to open it on my machine. Looks like they've still got a few bugs to iron out...

You can take a look at the live site for yourself here: [link]

Note that it's only a front page right now, so none of the links go anywhere.

The image used for the header and footer is still the same one from SXC.

Thanks to Helio again for the nudge toward SXC, and thanks to you for lookin'! :)

Sometimes I have issues with Safari for Windows as well. I got rid of it now that I found a great online resource for seeing what your pages look like in different browsers on different operating systems.

The website is www.browsershots.org and the service is completely free. You enter a web page location, select the browsers you want to see it in, and then wait for them to be rendered. Very cool service. Sometimes you have to wait a little while because of how busy the 'factories' are, but it's totally worth it for the price of free!

I hope that site helps you out as much as it has been helping me this past month. I've used it almost every day in testing designs. Good luck.

P.S. - this is a nice design! :)

Ah yes, I've heard of BrowserShots. I used their service before a while ago, but a friend pointed me to Evolt.org, a site whence one can download stand-alone packages of past browser versions (mainly IE6 when I upgraded to IE7, since they don't always get the same things wrong). I've been doing my cross-browser testing on my own machine since then, and I used to assume that Safari would render it just fine if it worked in both Opera and Firefox. { why I stopped assuming that }

For Safari Win, though, I don't know what happened. It was working, then it stopped. I may just need to start using BrowserShots' service again. Or ask one of my co-workers to check it out. They're all Mac people. Apple - brainwashing people into believing that "designers" have to use a clumsy interface since 1984.

Thanks for the comment. :)

and by the way I checked it out in safari and everything seems to be pretty much ok, because safari is stupid and interprets color profiles differently (to make them seem more "rich") the bg's behind your nav and copyright are darker then the bg of the actual site. The only way i know of to fix this is to make any adjacent or overlapping images the same file type even if it makes optimization less convenient.

everyone should just use firefox damnit!
