Nothing tangible is eternal. Not people, not things. Victims of old age, rust, or corporate downsizing, nothing physical lasts forever. Finite, mortal, combustible. A world of unending endings.
But feelings, love, beauty - these will not end. Standing within man's constructions, views of concrete and metal, I find myself dreaming of the unfathomable spectacle of the world outside our man made monuments to callous efficiency. The setting of the sun, the vision of hope, the anticipation of seeing the palette cast upon the sky as it rises again tomorrow.
One day, our children will see it, and smile as they quietly pray for the weekend's coming to quicken. Their children will see it some other night, and pause but a moment to take in the calm of the pure eventide sky. The mysterious emotion sunset evokes in us all transcends generations. And tonight, as I see it myself, I smile, and thank God for Eternity.
